A kewpie doll goes to the person who can guess what this is, what it does, and the label on each of the 4 positions of the controller

If your name is Kevin, Pete, or Tom - You’re not allowed to guess.

Update - 18-July-2007

Looks like nobody is going to get this one. I’ll go ahead and ruin the contest by giving the result.

It’s a masthead combination tri-color, anchor, strobe light with a photovoltaic cell that turns the light off when the sun is up. It uses about 6 watts and can be seen from 2 nautical miles away. Switch positions are tri-color, anchor, strobe, and off. It is the ultimate cruising kit, and I may need a second mortgage on the house to cover the payments.

Does this mean I have to give myself a kewpie doll?

  1. Well, it is obviously a bi-color navigation light of some sort, which I assume means it has something to do with either navigating or preventing other boats crashing into yours, but I really do not have all day to google until I figure out the rest when undoubtedly most of your readers are saying, “duh, that part is obvious.” But for someone who has never actually set foot on a sailboat, I am quite proud of myself :-D, even if I know I have no chance at the kewpie doll :-(

Fortunately I have a very dear friend who is a very gifted dollmaker, and I bet I can persuade her to craft a Deluxe Special Limited Edition Speed Master doll. She’d probably be willing to make a few extras if anyone else out there wants one.

  2. All I know is red, green, white - port, starboard, bow. And off?

  3. But wouldn’t you have them all on at once? I really don’t know what the settings on the controller would be.
