The family is having some small difficulty agreeing on a boat name. Dana thinks my names are too geeky. I think hers are too girly. Sam wants to name the boat Banana Rocket or Golden Fang or some other such nonsense.
And since peer pressure has always been a strong (some would say primary) contributor to my behavior, I figured you should help me name my boat. Please weigh in, via the comments area, if you prefer one of the names below. Or feel free to suggest some alternative.
- Bonfire
- Smaug
- Subtle Assertion
- Kobayashi Maru
- Firefly
- Rift
Keep in mind that I hate puns. Especially puns that are an obvious play on words; like say for example, a salesman naming his boat Sale Away. That’s stupid. Metaphors, on the other hand, I like. Especially if the metaphor has some deeper meaning or makes total strangers ask, “What is the significance of your boat’s name?” Google “Flood Tip” when you get a chance. Now that is one hell of a boat name. I’m a little pissed I didn’t think of it.
Also keep in mind that the boat is a cruising boat. So names like Intimidator and Speedicus Maximus would feel out of place.
Special note to Chad: The boat name, Inverted Uterus, will not be considered for any reason. It is just -not- as funny as you think it is.
I like Kobayashi Maru. KHAN!!!!!

“Cygnus”
It kinda sounds like Agnus and one of you must have an Aunt named that or more appropriately Cygnus contains the “Great Rift” see:

BTW, congratulations on the boat. It looks like a dream come true.

Cygnus is now under official consideration.
When are you going to come out of hibernation, Scott? There is a brand new J/80 for sale at KO Sailing.

Rapscallion came up with Jib Vicious as a great punk rock boat name. I don’t believe you are a punk rocker but it is a heck of a boat name. Institutionalized is a good one too, but with that many letters the graphics become very expensive.
Or, if you’re going geeky, The Elusive Free Quark.

I love the Sex Pistols! Jib Vicious is officially under consideration.
Thanks, Edward!

What about “Deeply Shallow”???
Congratulations on your boat!! I’ve been there, done that, you will love it!!!!

Has this issue been decided yet? I must say that my affection for David’s own fantasy version of himself would lean toward Firefly, while my skepticism about him suggests that Deeply Shallow is probably damn near perfect. But Jib Vicious is darn good, and I think I may now be in love with Dana just for considering it. And really, the children do need to be properly educated and having to hear his parents explain who the Sex Pistols are at least 1,037 times could be quite good for Sam. He really does sound quite insufficiently rebellious so far.
Oh, wait, I’ve got it: Friggin’ in the Riggin’!
(may be inappropriate for the young ‘uns, though. Sorry. But really, can you beat that for a punk rock boat name?)
